I drew this piece while hiking in Les Dentelles de Montmirail, in the south of France this fall. It was an incredibly windy day- the French call the Provencal wind ‘the mistral’ and boy can it howl! But I hunkered down beside a boulder and spent several hours drawing this spectacular view. A few climbers passed me as I worked, and we chatted about the amazing rock formations surging out of the countryside, which was otherwise covered in vineyards and winding french roads. After I finished drawing, I hiked along the right flank of the mountain until I was able to find a trail to the summit. Walking along the top of this wild mountain as the sun set was not something I will soon forget, and I made it home several hours later with a full heart.
