I painted this piece while on a hike in Canyonlands National Park with a good friend who’s a photographer. I sat and painted while he took photos of the process, my palettes, paint water and sketchbook getting blown all over the place in the desert wind, and the changing light. It was such a fun contrast between the two art forms, me labouring away slowly and him capturing moments with the click of a button, with hours of editing the following day. We stayed until the sun started to sink in the sky and then drove out of the park as the sun set over these spectacular rock formations.
